Costa Rica does not have exotic or complicated laws regarding foreigner-ownership of property. In fact buying property in Costa Rica is less complicated than purchasing in the U.S.

An important procedure to know is that all real estate transactions in Costa Rica require working with an attorney. Since we’ve been in the Costa Rican real estate business for over 20 years - we know several efficient attorneys around Lake Arenal in Tilarán and in San Jose. We smooth the way for each transaction by doing much of the paperwork before our attorney meetings, and we make sure that our clients fully understand the entire process.

Once you’ve made your purchase, we here at Rico Realty want to ensure that your transition to Costa Rica is positive one. We assist our clients in getting utilities, telephone service, bank accounts, vehicle purchases, and can refer them to other professional services like how to establish residency, ship their personal belongings, or find medical services.

Rico Realty is a member of both real estate associations in Costa Rica – the CCCBR or Costa Rican Chamber of Real Estate Brokers, and CRGAR Costa Rica Global Association of Realtors. All affiliated Realtors must be a permanent resident of Costa Rica in order to "legally" work in the country and abide by the Code of Ethics of the CCCBR and CRGAR, which establishes agents’ obligations with their customers and third parties involved in real estate transactions.

Rico Realty is also a member of the U.S. based National Association of Realtors. NAR was founded in 1908 in Chicago and has since become the premier organization that influences and shapes the real estate industry in North America and worldwide.
